Ring in Fall with Apple Dipping
Fall is upon us! And what better way to ring in the season than with a snack party where you and your friends decorate caramel-dipped apples (we won’t tell your dentist). Follow along below for the step-by-step guide to making this tasty treat at home!
What You’ll Need
-
Apples of any variety (though firmer, tarter apples like Granny Smith work well with caramel)
-
Sturdy bamboo BBQ skewers
-
Caramel dipping sauce: to make your own, we’re fans of this recipe from Sally’s Baking! Thank you for the helpful tips, Sally!
-
Toppings: sprinkles, shredded coconut, nuts — pick your favorites!
-
Parchment paper
-
Sheet pans
How to Make Caramel Dipped Apples
-
Line several sheet pans with parchment paper
-
Prep your apples: thoroughly wash and dry your apples
-
Assemble your toppings: prepare small bowls of your favorite toppings so they’ll be ready when it’s time to dip
-
Insert the BBQ into each apple and set aside on sheet pan
-
Prepare the caramel: if using the recipe above, combine heavy cream, light corn syrup, brown sugar, butter, and salt in a heavy-bottomed saucepan until the mixture reaches a temperature of 235° F (candy thermometers are very helpful here!). Remove caramel from heat and stir in vanilla
-
Pour the caramel mixture into a slow cooker pot to keep warm while your guests arrive
-
Once you’re ready to dip, hold each apple on an angle as you slowly rotate it through the caramel mixture. Immediately follow with a dip in your desired topping
-
Rest each completed apple on the parchment paper-covered sheet pan and allow to cool for about 30-45 minutes.
-
If you’d like to try smaller pieces, slice one apple up for mini-dipping sessions
-
Enjoy!
