Thanks for Supporting the Youth at Covenant House

November 10, 2023
Five people standing indoors holding a large check from Bob's Outreach and Bob's Furniture, dated Nov. 2, 2023, for $60,000 payable to Covenant House, memo "Café Collections for a Cause," with yellow, white, and blue balloons on the right.

Thanks to the generous contributions of our guests and a match from Bob’s, $60,000 was donated to Covenant House, helping to support thousands of unhoused youth nationwide.

During the summer months, Bob’s collected donations in all store cafés coast to coast to support Covenant House. Bob’s matched every donation made in our on-the-house cafés, dollar-for-dollar.

This November, at the start of Youth Homelessness Awareness Month, Bob’s employees visited Covenant House New York to present the donation and serve lunch to more than 100 young people residing at the facility. In addition to serving nutritious meals to residents, the Bob’s team was able to host a candy station from a store café as a special treat.

Touring the facility, the Bob’s team learned that 1,500 unduplicated youth are served by Covenant House New York annually. With an employment-focused program, Covenant House offers youth under the age of 21, shelter, medical services, meals, mental health support, legal support, education, and employment training. Covenant House is open 24/7, 365 days of the year and operates in 34 cities across 5 countries.

Tod Monaghan, Senior Vice President of Key Partnerships has been with Covenant House New York for more than 20 years first beginning as a social worker. Monaghan said the youth in New York mostly come from the five boroughs, but a small percentage come from all over America and foreign countries. Youth come to Covenant House for a variety of different reasons, but no youth is turned away from services, explained Monaghan.

“Covenant House is grateful for the support of the Bob’s community ,” said Covenant House President & CEO Bill Bedrossian.

“It is partnerships like this, and creative campaigns like Café for a Cause, that enable us to not only continue providing meals, safe beds, medical care, and all the immediate needs for our young people but also enables us to lift up our young people as they work so hard pursuing their goals and dreams. We are grateful to Bob’s for recognizing the great promise of our young people and joining with them on their individual journeys,” said Bedrossian.

At least 4.2 million young people experience homelessness every year in the U.S. alone. With absolute respect and unconditional love, Covenant House works tirelessly to achieve a world where every young person and young family can find safe, permanent housing.

“It was an honor to visit Covenant House New York to experience the programming and care offered to residents,” said Lindsay Ruszczyk, Communications and Community Outreach Director. “Thanks to the generosity of our guests, we can support Covenant House facilities across America, ensuring unhoused youth can obtain access to shelter and a goodnight sleep, which is crucial for successful outcomes.”
