Bob’s Gives Random Act of Kindness Checks to Detroit Non-Profit Orgs

Ah, Detroit! Home of automobiles, Mo-town, and now… Bob’s Discount Furniture!

Metro Detroit has extended me and my store associates with such an incredibly warm welcome. That’s why I wanted to give back in a major way while I was in Southeast Michigan opening four new stores in May. I opened brand-new locations in Livonia, Novi, Shelby Township and Taylor.

Every store we open starts by partnering with two schools in the local community.

Two people holding a large check from Bob's Discount Furniture dated 5/23/2019, made out to Novi High School for $2,500.00 with memo "Random Act of Kindness." Three men in suits are clapping in the background in a well-lit indoor setting.

In Detroit, my Outreach team went a bit further. In addition to supporting 9 local schools, I also had the pleasure of supporting three community organizations fighting homelessness in the region. In total across all four grand openings, I donated $52,000 to Detroit area non-profit organizations.

First up to show up was Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS), who brought two individuals to my Livonia Grand Opening to shop for furniture for their new homes. One of those individuals, Amber Miller, had her eye on some of my sparkly pieces. I can’t blame her!

“Shout out to COTS. I appreciate you guys,” said Miller. “Thank you to Bob’s Furniture.

Next up, I had the pleasure of greeting Julie Ratekin from the Out-Wayne Shelter Programand Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency. Two members of her program came along too and picked out furniture to be delivered to their shelter facilities in June.

“We were able to connect Bob’s to local homeless shelters to help provide those much-needed furniture items,” said Ratekin.

With Ratekin’s assistance, we were put in touch with First Step, an organization committed to supporting peaceful families and safe communities by providing comprehensive services for victims of domestic and sexual violence. When we reached out to them they were thrilled to have our support. Copper Drip table lamps and Mystic Bay black nightstands were selected for each of their living spaces, providing a home-like and welcoming feel for each of their client’s rooms.

On the morning of July 2nd,2019, the delivery of my Copper Drip table lamps and Mystic Bay black nightstands was completed.

I’m happy to say that the delivery was completed on July 2nd and the residents are enjoying their new furniture.

Lastly, I invited Rebuilding Together Southeast Michigan to celebrate with me at my Grand Opening and receive a donation to support safe and thriving neighborhoods all around our stores and metro Detroit.
