Bob’s Donates $70,000 to Special Olympics

There aren’t too many topics that I love to talk about more than furniture, but presenting BIG checks to nonprofit organizations is one of them!

It just warms my little heart to know that my customers donate their money to help these worthy causes. I want to make sure to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who donated. This really means a lot to mean and I know that Special Olympics and the other Café Collections for a Cause organizations truly appreciate your generosity.  

Special Olympics is my first quarter Café Collections for a Cause program and on Wednesday, October 7, my team and I were able to present a BIG check for $70,000 to Mary Beth McMahon, the president and CEO of Special Olympics Massachusetts. The $70,000 will be dispersed to Special Olympic chapters in each state where we have stores.

Since its founding in 1968, Special Olympics has helped create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school and community programs, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.

The presentation took place at my Bellingham, Massachusetts location with the help of Debra Lytle, the store manager. 

 A Proud Partnership Since 2014

 Bob’s has been a proud supporter of the Special Olympics since 2014. This year’s donation of $70,000, combined with all the donations from the previous years, brings our grand total to $417,000!

So, go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back. None of this is possible without your support and I can’t thank you enough.

Taking the Plunge

Melissa Ortins and Amanda Depelteau were two of the 11 brave Bob’s employees who went running into the frigid Atlantic Ocean on Sunday, Feb. 2 to raise money for the Special Olympics at the 21st Annual Penguin Plunge. [link to blog article on Penguin Plunge]

The water was a brisk 43 degrees.“It was actually warmer in the water than outside,” said Ortins.The team, affectionately named Little Bobsters, raised just over $4,000 for Special Olympics.
