Supporting Youth with Covenant House

Whenever a young person comes to  Covenant House for help,  their goal is to help them move from instability to independent living. For many youth in  their programs, that means supporting them in the search for housing. Moving residents into affordable housing they’ve worked, saved, and fought for, is one of the most joyous moments experienced at Covenant House. For young people who have lived through so much upheaval, the chance to settle into a space that’s truly theirs comes as a huge relief.

At Bob’s Discount Furniture, we believe that everyone deserves a home – a home they love, we know how important that is for the youth supported by Covenant House.

Bob’s Discount Furniture celebrated their newest location in Long Island City, New York on Friday, November 7th, with a grand opening celebration. K.C. Aghoghovbia, Manager (center) cut the ribbon for the new store alongside Steve Nesle, Chief Marketing Officer (left), Nick Vassilakos, Divisional Vice President (right), Joshua Livermore, Regional Sales Director (left end, holding ribbon), Tod Monaghan, SVP, Key Partnerships Covenant House International (back, center) and many other Bob’s employees and community guests.

We are grateful to our guests who contributed to our Café Collections for a Cause program to benefit Covenant House this past fall. Through their generous donations and a dollar-for-dollar match from Bob’s, we’re proud to contribute $48,200 to Covenant House, which will help keep their  doors open for youth 24/7. The donation was presented at the grand opening of our new Bob’s store in Long Island City, NY, just a few miles from Covenant House’s  shelter in Manhattan.

“We are incredibly grateful for our growing partnership with Bob’s Discount Furniture in providing safety, stability, and opportunity for young people overcoming homelessness. Support from the Bob’s community helps create spaces where our youth can heal, grow, and feel truly at home. We deeply appreciate their dedication to our young people and the meaningful impact they make every day, said Tod Monaghan, SVP Key Partnerships, Covenant House International

“Partnering with Covenant House is deeply meaningful to all of us at Bob’s,” says Lindsay Ruszczyk, Director of Community Outreach. “Their work to provide safety, stability, and hope for young people facing homelessness aligns with our belief that every individual deserves dignity and a place to call home.

“Through our Café Collections for a Cause program, we are proud to make a substantial donation to Covenant House during our Long Island City Grand Opening, and even more honored to do so during Youth Homelessness Awareness Month. This initiative allows our customers to join us in supporting organizations that make a real difference, and Covenant House is a powerful example of that impact.”

Bob’s donated mattresses to support youth served by Covenant House in Chicago.

In addition to contributing funds, Bob’s is honored to support  Covenant House youth through in-kind donations as well. Last year, we donated 19 beds to furnish a new transitional housing program in Chicago. Volunteers from Bob’s came to set up the beds and welcome youth to their new living space. Together, Covenant House and Bob’s are creating spaces where young people can truly feel at home.

Bob’s has partnered with Covenant House since 2023 and has exceeded $100,000 in contributions.
