There are several factors you’ll want to consider when choosing a dining table set. First, measure to see how much room you have for a table and chairs. Be sure to factor in the space people will need to walk as well as adequate space to pull out chairs.
Second, decide how many people you’d like to seat at your dining room table set. If you have the space, try to go for at least two more seats than the amount of people in your household. For example, if you’re a family of four, seating for six is ideal.
Third, decide on the table shape you prefer. Round shapes can be useful for tight spaces, while rectangular tables are a classic option.
Next, consider the style and material that will best complement any existing furniture, table décor, lighting fixtures, wall colors or cabinets. If you’re selecting a kitchen table set, you might want it to match with the rest of the kitchen. However, if you have a separate dining room, you might want to go for a completely different décor scheme and choose the style and materials that bring your vision of day-to-day dining or special occasion hosting to life!
It’s also important to think about the materials that make the most sense for those who use your table daily. You might not want upholstered chairs if you have little ones that spill or don’t always have the cleanest hands. Same goes for the tabletop! Will you be racing to put a coaster under everyone’s drinks? Or do you need a table surface that easily wipes clean without worry of stains?
When it comes to feeding the whole family at once, choose one of my dining table sets with seating for eight to 10 people! A dining table with a bench and chairs is a great option if you have little ones that don’t necessarily need an adult-sized chair.
For holidays and celebrations when you want to welcome more people to the table, many of my dining tables have a leaf to expand the length so you can pull up a few more chairs! If you still need more table space to accommodate your crew, consider getting two dining table sets and placing them end to end or in an L shape.
Arranging a dining room can be as simple as having a table and chairs. Optional décor items that help bring a room together include: a rug centered beneath the table, a centerpiece on top of the table, and perhaps some wall art or a wall mirror!

Use a china hutch to display attractive serving pieces and store additional items like table linens. Use a server for storage as well, but also to provide an extra surface for items you don’t want to go back to the kitchen to retrieve — which is especially useful for holiday dinners or large gatherings!
