Dining Chair FAQs
The answer to this really depends on the type of dining table you have! Typically I recommend taking the number of people in your household and adding two (so families of four will want a minimum of six dining chairs to accommodate guests), but it really varies on your circumstances.
If you have a smaller, compact dining table, you can usually fit up to four seats—perfect for those who don’t host much or prefer to hang out in other areas of the home. Some of my extendable tables, however, can fit upwards of ten dining chairs!
My best piece of advice would be to use my 3D room designer tool—that way you can get an idea of your space parameters before making any purchases.
Once again, take a look at your lifestyle before deciding between upholstery or wooden chairs. If you’ve got young kids or are spill-prone yourself, I’d suggest sticking with wooden chairs or easy-to-clean upholstery like vinyl or leather. If you’re shopping for a rarely-used dining room or your kids can make it through a meal without dropping their spoon, I have plenty of high-quality fabric options—most of which come packed with my world-famous Bob-O-Pedic Memory Foam® for cozy dining.
If you love the communal style of a dining bench, you may find yourself wondering what shape table will best accommodate this family favorite. Because of their longer, narrower shape, I typically recommend a rectangular or square dining table. That’s not to say, however, you can’t combine two benches in an L-shape and pair with a round table for a perfect little breakfast nook!
