Bob’s Sponsors Holiday Meals for the Military

November 18, 2021

Oh, the weather outside was quite delightful… for a November afternoon! While inside at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown, Connecticut a team of my employee volunteers was busy at work packing up holiday meals for military families. The event was part of Operation Homefront’s Holiday Meals for the Military program.

A team of over 20 Bob’s Discount Furniture employees took a few hours out of their day to help pack bags of non-perishable food items, bags of cleaning supplies, small packets of cosmetics and totes with yummy candy in them and then hand them out to military families at a drive-through event.

Psst….don’t tell them I taste-tested some of the candy; that’s our little secret!

Bob’s Discount Furniture worked together with Operation Homefront to sponsor the Holiday Meals for the Military event. Operation Homefront is our fourth quarter Café Collection for a Cause partner. All of the money donated by you, the customer, from October 1 – December 31st will be collected and presented to Operation Homefront. And best of all, I’ll provide a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $75,000! So, the more you give, the more I give.

I bet you didn’t know I have deep pockets… we’ll figuratively speaking of course. I am only a 3-foot puppet!

Each family received a bag of dry goods, with enough food to serve eight people. In addition, families received a $25 gift card to buy a protein of their choice.

In total, over 100 families received holiday meals at the event which is just one of many held across the country.

According to Joe O’Hara, Area Director for Operation Homefront, by December 17, the Holiday Meals for the Military program will have fed 15,000 military families in 2021. Since the program’s inception in 2010, over 500,000 individuals have enjoyed a nice holiday meal.

“Our service members are always there for our country in its time of need, so we like to be there for them in their time of need,” said O’Hara.
