How to Make Your Own Indoor Picnic

Summer is here! And while it’s prime picnic season, sometimes it’s simply too hot to dine al fresco. But fear not — you can still enjoy a relaxing summer meal by making your very own indoor picnic in just a few easy steps!

Step One: Everything You Need for an Indoor Picnic

So, what do you need to set up a perfect indoor picnic? To set the scene, I recommend grabbing a picnic blanket (or really, any blanket!), a picnic basket, and some lightweight plates, silverware, glassware and festive napkins. And if you really want to go wild, grab some sunglasses for a “bringing the outdoors inside” feel.

By the way, if a picnic blanket and basket aren’t really part of your day-to-day, it’s easy to store them when not in use in my handy Modular Bob™ sectional!

Step Two: The Perfect Indoor Picnic Menu

So, what should you add to your indoor picnic menu? I’m a big fan of snacking on whatever’s in the fridge (who says you can’t chow down on leftover pizza?!), but if you want a classic picnic feel, consider putting together your own assortment of sandwiches, fruit, chips or pretzels and a few fun beverages. Need inspiration? My friend Martha Stewart has a whole bunch of savory sandwich recipes that I think would taste just as great inside as outdoors!

And when it comes to delicious drinks, may I suggest popping a bottle of your favorite rosé or trying a refreshing Grapefruit Gimlet?

Step Three: Enjoy Your Indoor Picnic!

It’s time to sit down, relax, and enjoy your tasty indoor picnic! Pop on a few of your favorite summertime ’tunes, make a toast to staying cool, and start snacking — save a sandwich for me!
