Bob’s Discount Furniture Recognized as a Leader in Responsible Wood Sourcing
MANCHESTER, Conn. – October 18, 2021 – Bob's Discount Furniture, one of the largest and fastest growing furniture retailers in the United States, was recently recognized as a leader in sustainability by both the environmental-impact non-profit Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF).
SFC analyzes the environmental and health impact of home-furnishing products and assists companies in adopting eco-friendly practices. In addition, they are a resource to consumers, serving as an information clearinghouse and providing an environmental “symbol of assurance.” Companies recognized by SFC lead the industry in best practices throughout their supply chains and demonstrate a commitment to a healthy future, inside and out. The goal is to encourage furniture retailers, large and small, to implement robust policies that drive responsible wood sourcing practices through their complex supply chains.
"It has been great to work with Bob's Discount Furniture this year. I am especially proud of the company for the great strides made in implementing their quite robust wood sourcing policy,” said Susan Inglis, executive director, Sustainable Furnishings Council. “In some circles, there may be a loosening of vigilance as supply chains are constrained, but with this policy and implementation, I know we do not have to worry about that at BDF, and I appreciate it!"
As Bob’s, which now boasts 150 stores nationwide, continues to rapidly expand its business across the United States, sustainability has been a core focus across all business practices. In addition to utilizing responsible wood sourcing, Bob’s is committed to recycling mattresses and packaging materials. In 2020 alone, the company recycled 68,292 pieces of bedding, 222 tons of foam, and 295 tons of plastic film.
“Bob’s Discount Furniture is proud to be recognized for a third year in a row by the SFC as a leader in responsible wood sourcing and we value their continued support,” said Lucas Macedo, Vice President, Merchandise QA and Compliance, Bob’s Discount Furniture.
To be assessed by SFC and NWF, Bob’s provided data points on several of its in-flight sustainability practices related to responsible wood sourcing. Bob’s provides more details on the Social Responsibility page on its website.
