Bob’s Discount Furniture Launches 10th Annual Celebrate the Arts Contest

Bob’s to award $25,000 to one winning school to support cultural arts programs

MANCHESTER, Conn. – September 29, 2015 – Bob’s Discount Furniture today kicked off its 10th annual Celebrate the Arts contest. From Thursday, October 1 through Saturday, October 31, schools can enter to win a $25,000 cultural grant to support their arts programs. Led by the Bob’s Discount Furniture Outreach team, the contest aims to generate awareness and support of fine arts and cultural programs to help maintain visual, creative, and performing arts in schools.

To enter, schools fill out a form through the Bob’s Discount Furniture website: http://www.mybobs.com/celebrate-the-arts. The contest is open to K-12 schools located in the 11 states where Bob’s is located (CT, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VA). In anticipation of its Chicago store openings in early 2016, Bob’s Discount Furniture has opened this year’s contest to Illinois schools, as well.

"Too often, arts programs are the first to feel the effects of budget cuts," said Cathy Poulin, public relations director and spokeswoman for Bob’s Discount Furniture. "When we created this contest, our goal was to not only help combat these program cuts, but provide the resources needed to enhance the programs themselves."

All schools must submit an entry by October 31 to be eligible to win. The Outreach team will randomly select one school on Tuesday, November 10 to receive the $25,000 grant to use during the 2015-2016 school year.

"We were thrilled to be the winning school of the 2014 Celebrate the Arts contest," said Maureen McMullin, principal of Gov. John Fairfield Elementary School in Saco, Maine. "With the grant provided by Bob’s Discount Furniture, we were able to provide the students with wonderful performing arts experiences, including an integrated program with Junk 2 Funk and a trip to Portland’s Merrill Auditorium to see a show."

Bob’s Discount Furniture developed the Celebrate the Arts contest in 2006 after noticing the elimination of fine arts and cultural programs in schools following budget cuts. The contest was created to support, maintain, and grow school arts programs in the communities that Bob’s serves. Since the contest began, Bob’s has awarded more than $325,000 to schools.
