{"id":6052,"date":"2023-02-08T15:56:32","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T20:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/?p=6052"},"modified":"2025-07-18T23:45:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T03:45:22","slug":"a-giant-mattress-delivery-for-u-s-coast-guard-officer-candidate-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mybobs.com\/blog\/a-giant-mattress-delivery-for-u-s-coast-guard-officer-candidate-school\/","title":{"rendered":"A \u201cGiant\u201d Mattress Delivery for U.S. Coast Guard Officer Candidate School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It\u2019s going to be sweet dreams for new students of the U.S. Coast Guard\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gocoastguard.com\/active-duty-careers\/officer-opportunities\/programs\/officer-candidate-school-ocs\">Officer Candidate School<\/a> thanks to a mattress donation from <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/\">Bob\u2019s Discount Furniture<\/a> with the help of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giants.com\/\">New York Giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just two weeks after the Officer Candidates began their intensive 17-week program at the school located on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy\u2019s New London campus, Two-Time Super Bowl Champ and Super Bowl 25 MVP Ottis \u201cOJ\u201d Anderson, helped the Bob\u2019s team load in 50 new <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/mattresses\/view-all-mattresses\/p\/20063820004\">Bob-O-Pedic Hybrid Gem<\/a> mattresses. Volunteers from Bob\u2019s nearby Distribution Center jumped in to help and I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen a more efficient mattress assembly line in all my puppet life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe\n  src=\"https:\/\/player.cloudinary.com\/embed\/?cloud_name=mybobs&#038;secure_distribution=res.cloudinary.com%2Fmybobs&#038;private_cdn=true&#038;public_id=z6ixiljvabzgaulkrwee&#038;profile=cld-adaptive-stream\"\n  width=\"640\"\n  height=\"360\"\n  style=\"height: auto; width: 100%; aspect-ratio: 640 \/ 360;\"\n  allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture\"\n  allowfullscreen\n  frameborder=\"0\"\n><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGang way, mattress,\u201d the candidates chanted as they moved down hallways and around corners. OJ stood at the ready instructing the candidates and volunteers how to hold their mattresses for optimal leverage. sure they meant to interview me, they took time to discuss what the day\u2019s events meant to OJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe look on these\u2026 candidates\u2019 faces, to see the work ethics, the team unity that they showed.\u201d said OJ to Fox61\u2019s Jim Altman, \u201cThat was good for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt made go back and think about all my teammates I went to battle with, that Conditioning Center- a place that holds significance for both the Giants and the U.S. Coast Guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OJ, a former Giants\u2019 running back, sat in front of a display for NFL legend Emlen Tunnell who was a defensive back with the New York Giants (1948-1958) as well as a Coast Guard steward\u2019s mate during WWII. Tunnell is also the first African American recognized in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students lined up for more than hour while OJ signed jerseys, sneakers, sports memorabilia and photos.
