While the residents were out of the home at work and school, a team of Bob\u2019s representatives gave the home and eight bedrooms a makeover. For over 47 years, the local agency has provided safe and stable homes to mistreated adolescents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission of the agency is to provide safe, supportive and empowering programs that build skills, awaken hope for the future and help young people successfully transition into adulthood. LISA, Inc., operates three state-funded programs and facilitates several smaller projects. All programs serve adolescents who have been placed within the agency\u2019s care due to abuse, neglect, special medical or emotional needs, abandonment and involvement in the child protection system and\/or juvenile justice system in Connecticut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the girls enter the program with very few personal items, some with just the clothes on their backs. \u201cGiving them their brand-new space and brand-new furniture and having them feel like people actually do care is so important,\u201d said Cicero. \u201cAnd they know we care, but the outside community saying, you know, we believe in you, and we believe in you enough to have this; I think that creates a good home environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Preparing the Surprise Makeover<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/bobs-outreach?utm_medium=content&amp;utm_source=BobsBlog&amp;utm_campaign=lisadonation&amp;utm_content=boxesphoto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/boxes.jpg\" alt=\"Bob's Discount Furniture Truck\" class=\"wp-image-2937\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mybobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/boxes.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.mybobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/boxes-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mybobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/boxes-768x538.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><br>Bob\u2019s Discount Furniture donated over $35,000 worth of furniture to LISA, Inc. in Connecticut<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>My team arrived early on the morning of Friday, December 13 to help staff remove old furniture and make space for the new furniture. My BOBtastic Delivery Experience team worked like a well-oiled machine, unloading the truck and setting up all the bedrooms and furniture throughout the house. Luckily, I had the assistance of a special helper for this project, Colleen Wood, director of customer care operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Bob&#039;s Discount Furniture: A Legacy of Giving\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u0Gif_jncq0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Colleen was a huge help with this makeover and also spent her own time to get to know the residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cAs a Connecticut-based company, we have been moved by the great work LISA, Inc. does to empower, support, and provide a safe haven for local youth and their families. We encourage anyone who can, to support the local charities and organizations that are making a big difference in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tina\u2019s Story<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Tina&#039;s Story\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oQNf5rd0KlY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>My favorite part about any Outreach event is meeting the people because it\u2019s the people that really make this all worth it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Tina, one of the residents at the LISA facility in Plainville and I\u2019m grateful that she shared her story with me and my team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tina has been a resident at the Plainville location for just about a year and despite a few ups and downs, she said it\u2019s been a very positive experience for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\t\u201cComing in here, I did have some struggles,\u201d said Tina. \u201cThe few months of just moving in, getting used to a lot. Then when I got the flow of things it was like, ok, you can do this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\tAnd she did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tina credits the staff with being patient and caring and available to help residents work through any problems they have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\t\u201cThis is my best program I\u2019ve been to and I don\u2019t want to leave,\u201d said Tina. <br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santa and his elves made an early visit to a LISA, Inc., (Living in Safe Alternatives) location in Connecticut on Friday, Dec. 13.
