{"id":1577,"date":"2019-09-27T15:20:17","date_gmt":"2019-09-27T19:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/?p=1577"},"modified":"2025-08-14T15:46:29","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T19:46:29","slug":"childhood-cancer-awareness-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mybobs.com\/blog\/childhood-cancer-awareness-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Showing Our Support During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to recognize the children and families affected by childhood cancers and to emphasize the importance of supporting organizations working to end these devastating conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help do our part, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Bob\u2019s (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/bobs-outreach?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=childhoodcancer&utm_content=bobshyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">Bob\u2019s<\/a> pledged to donate over $130,000 during September\u2013and more throughout the year\u2013to amazing organizations that care for children with cancer and improve outcomes through cutting-edge research. Here are their stories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Emilio Nares Foundation: From Personal Tragedy to Giving Hope\u2026and a Ride<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I started the month off with a donation to the<a href=\"https:\/\/enfhope.org\/\"> <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Emilio Nares Foundation (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/enfhope.org?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=childhoodcancer&utm_content=emilionaresfoundationhyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">Emilio Nares Foundation<\/a> (ENF) at the grand opening of my El Cajon, California location. ENF was named after the late son of Richard and Diane Nares. When Emilio passed away at age 6 after a mighty battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, his parents honored his memory by creating ENF to help low-income underserved families meet basic needs, especially transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their mission is to ensure no child misses a cancer treatment due to lack of transportation. What began with co-founder Richard Nares driving families to and from life-saving cancer treatments in his own car steadily grew into a movement much bigger than any one person. Today, ENF\u2019s flagship program, <em>Ride with Emilio<\/em>, provides free transportation for underprivileged children and their parents to and from the hospital for cancer-related appointments. Sean, who had been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma (a rare childhood cancer) passed away in 2006, but his legacy lives on. Inspired by his son\u2019s battle, Sean\u2019s father helped found<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theseanyfoundation.org\/\"> <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"The Seany Foundation (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theseanyfoundation.org?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=childhoodcancer&utm_content=seanyfoundationhyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">The Seany Foundation<\/a> to advocate for other children coping with cancer. Today, The Seany Foundation\u2019s main goal is to bring relief and happiness to kids struggling with cancer and to their families, particularly siblings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Seany Foundation was new to Bob\u2019s family of charity partners as well. I was touched by the amazing work they do year-round but were really blown away by how they knock it out of the park in the summertime with their popular camp programs. During our longtime partnership, Bob\u2019s has grown, and so has our support of The Jimmy Fund\u2019s mission to help save lives and give hope to cancer patients everywhere. I\u2019ve been a proud supporter of The Jimmy Fund for over 14 years. One way they fundraise for their research is through their<a href=\"http:\/\/parkway.chop.edu\/\"> <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Parkway Run & Walk (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/parkway.chop.edu\/?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=childhoodcancer&utm_content=chophyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">Parkway Run & Walk<\/a>. For every donation received through the Parkway Run & Walk, 100% of the funds goes to research for a cure and care for children treated at CHOP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, a Bob\u2019s store manager with a personal connection to CHOP rallied the troops for their first Parkway Run & Walk. The Bob\u2019s employees had such a good time, they wanted to participate again. Throughout the third quarter, all the generous donations my customers give in my complimentary cafes were matched dollar for dollar by my outreach team and the combined total was donated to ALSF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We love our partnership with ALSF so much, we wanted to expand beyond our in-store fundraising to, well, outdoor fundraising! Building on the success of<a href=\"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/bobs-partners-with-alexs-lemonade-stand-foundation\/?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=TakingaStand&utm_content=BobsAlSparntershiphyperlink\"> <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"a special partnership I formed last year with Manchester High School (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/bobs-partners-with-alexs-lemonade-stand-foundation\/?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=childhoodcancer&utm_content=alexs2018hyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">a special partnership I formed last year with Manchester High School<\/a>, I found another awesome group of high school students from Mount St. Joseph Academy\u2019s Lemon Club from Flourtown, PA, eager to partner with me this year. To date, they\u2019ve fundraised at our Bob\u2019s-sponsored lemonade stand at the Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp and at our King of Prussia store.
