Determination. A lifelong dream fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think I\u2019m describing a professional athlete, you\u2019re wrong. It\u2019s actually a spot-on description of a former preschool teacher turned firefighter, Marvette James, who I recently met through a partnership with the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Washington Redskins (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.redskins.com?utm_medium=content&amp;utm_source=BobsBlog&amp;utm_campaign=redskins&amp;utm_content=redskinshyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Redskins<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwul.org?utm_medium=content&amp;utm_source=BobsBlog&amp;utm_campaign=redskins&amp;utm_content=gwulhyperlnk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) (opens in a new tab)\">Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL)<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While she looks back on her teaching years with fondness &#8211; saying her past students as \u201cher kids\u201d &#8211; she knew when the opportunity came along to become a firefighter, she needed to take action. Seeing that dream come true wasn\u2019t easy, but through the challenges, she persisted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marvette shared her story at a recent surprise furniture delivery that my team was honored to be a part of. Along with Marvette\u2019s family, Bob\u2019s was able to provide furniture to three other first-time homeowners in Washington, D.C., all with stories of perseverance just like Marvette\u2019s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/190902_Bobs_Furniture_Donation_2.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How I met the families<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The GWUL selected four deserving families who had recently qualified to purchase their first homes. How exciting! Owning a new home comes with a lot of responsibilities, but luckily decorating is fun! Everything from bunk beds for the kids, new beds for mom, dining room sets, comfy sofas.
