Not only is this great for my arms, but I also like creating comfy conversation areas\u2014to talk about the furniture of course! Just this past weekend I had an hour-long discussion with my friend about the difference between a <a href=\"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/do-you-know-the-difference-between-a-sofa-and-a-couch\/?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=sofavscouchhyperlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"sofa and a couch (opens in a new tab)\">sofa and a couch<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyhoo, here are 10 tips to help you arrange your living room furniture:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Some examples include a fireplace, big picture window, entertainment center or an oil painting of the first sofa. Once you have chosen your focal point, arrange your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"main seating areas (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/furniture\/living-room\/c\/sofas?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=mainseatingareashyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">main seating areas <\/a>so the sightlines are focused on the main feature in your room. After you\u2019ve arranged the main seating areas, position <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/home-decor?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=decorhyperlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the rest of your decor (opens in a new tab)\">the rest of your decor<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/categoryPage\/home-decor\"> <\/a>as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Leave Room to Move<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In large and small spaces alike, it\u2019s important to leave room for all the people who will be using your furniture. In most cases, a good rule of thumb is to leave about 30\u201d of space between your furniture for walking and about 18\u201d between your sofa and your <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/furniture\/living-room\/c\/coffee-tables?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=coffeetablehyperlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"coffee table (opens in a new tab)\">coffee table<\/a> to keep drinks, remotes and other things within reach. End tables can be just a few inches away from the sides of your sofa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a <a aria-label=\"small living room (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/5-smart-solutions-for-small-living-rooms\/?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=smalllivingroomhyperlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">small living room<\/a>, try using a nesting table. Not only are they super fun but they are also extremely functional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong> 3. Create a Natural Traffic Pattern<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve created ample room to move around, make sure you have a good traffic pattern in the room. Remember, this is a living room, not a ninja challenge or a parkour course.<strong> <\/strong>There should be open access to all main seating areas. Try removing an item or two if your room starts to feel cluttered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Let there be Light! <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing adds life to a space like good ole natural sunlight.<strong> <\/strong>Don\u2019t be afraid to center your room around a particularly stunning view. Sometimes I\u2019ll just sit on my sofa, take in the beautiful view of the trees and think about my ancestors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I\u2019m not thinking about grandpappy Bob, I\u2019m watching the History of Furniture on my television and I definitely don\u2019t want any sun glare on the screen, especially during the episode about <a href=\"https:\/\/mybobs.wpengine.com\/tuft-love\/?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=tuftinghyperlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"tufting (opens in a new tab)\">tufting<\/a>. Talk about craftsmanship!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorry, tangent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you position your TV and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/furniture\/living-room\/c\/entertainment-centers-and-tv-stands?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=entertainmentcenterhyperlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"entertainment center (opens in a new tab)\">entertainment center<\/a>, try facing it away from the sunlight, so as not to catch a glare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Establish a Conversation Area<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Because when you\u2019re not watching TV, texting or on social media, sometimes it\u2019s still nice to have a face-to-face conversation. Position your sofa and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mybobs.com\/furniture\/living-room\/c\/loveseats?utm_medium=content&utm_source=BobsBlog&utm_campaign=10lrtips&utm_content=loveseathyperlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"loveseat (opens in a new tab)\">loveseat<\/a> in an \u201cL\u201d shape, and place your coffee table between them. Place an armchair opposite the crook of the L and face it toward your coffee table. To tie the whole area together, anchor your furniture pieces with an area rug. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong> 6. This app literally allows you to see furniture in your space before you buy it. Just download Bob\u2019s app, scan your room, and select the furniture you have your eye on to see it in your space. It\u2019s really that easy! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong> 8. Keep your Conversations Cozy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Arrange your main seating areas so you have defined conversation blocks. This will make the space feel more comfortable and reduce any unnecessary shouting across the room. If you have a larger room, divide the space into \u201cactivity zones.\u201d Try arranging your furniture into comfortable \u201cislands\u201d that allow you to make use of your full space. Families with kids might make one part of the living room a play area or a separate reading area with a few chairs and a bookshelf. In those cases, it\u2019s not unusual to break up the room by using your sofa or loveseat as a physical divider. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9.
