Bob’s leaders, Chief Operating Officer, Ramesh Murthy and Chief Growth Officer, Stepen Moeller, presented a ceremonial donation to Operation Homefront President and CEO, Alan Reyes. The presentation was held alongside Bob’s partner and NASCAR Series driver, Denny Hamlin during the Cook Out 400 at the Martinsville Speedway on March 29.

The donation includes funds collected in Bob’s store cafés from October through December 2025 and a dollar-for-dollar match from Bob’s to benefit Operation Homefront Transitional Housing (Apartments). The $50,000 donation will provide full sponsorship of a housing unit for a family for a full year.

“Home is the foundation of our business, and we’re honored to support Operation Homefront’s Transitional Housing program,” said Ramesh. “We’re inspired by the support Operation Homefront provides military families, and we are proud to be part of a program that helps them achieve stability and long-term success after military service.”

For many military families, transitioning to civilian life presents many obstacles, including finding an affordable place to live and securing employment to support themselves and their families. Transitional Housing (Apartments) provides veterans with a rent/utilities free apartment for one year, while giving them the opportunity to utilize both employment and financial counselor services to help achieve stability and chart a path to long-term post military success.

“Bob’s Discount Furniture has been an extraordinary partner in helping Operation Homefront build strong, stable, and secure military families,” said retired Rear Adm. Alan Reyes, President and CEO of Operation Homefront. “Their generosity—more than $400,000 since 2019—has directly supported programs that ensure military families have the resources they need for their own strength and resilience. We are incredibly thankful for Bob’s continued commitment to those who serve.”

Julian Kuhn enlisted in the Army in 2020 and served with the 82nd Airborne Division, intending to make the military a long-term career. He and his wife, Julie, had a 3-year-old son, when he joined. While stationed in South Korea, they welcomed their daughter, and Julian later re-enlisted despite ongoing back pain. During a physical training session in Korea, Julian suffered a severe back injury. An MRI revealed three bulging disks and a degenerative condition that eventually forced him to leave the Army. The injury affected his work, family life, and mental health. After returning to the U.S. and moving to Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the family faced financial stress, especially after Julie lost her job in March 2025. Concerned about housing stability, they applied for Operation Homefront’s Transitional Housing (Villages) program in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which provides rent- and utility-free housing for military families going through the medical board process. This program helped the family get back on track.

“Everything became a little clearer once I knew my family had a place to stay and a program to help us work toward a better future,” Julian said.

Recently, the family welcomed their third child and with roots in Fayetteville, NC, the family moved back to the area with the support of the Operation Homefront. Bob’s treated the Kuhn family to a shopping trip at their recently opened store in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

On this Veterans Day, Bob’s Discount Furniture is proud to honor and celebrate the service and sacrifice of our employees who are veterans. We appreciate the invaluable contributions that veterans make to our workforce, enriching our organization with their diverse experiences and unwavering dedication. To all the veterans on our team, we extend a heartfelt thank you for your service to our country and we are honored that have shared your experiences.

Bob’s is also privileged to support veterans and active military through our current Café Collection for a Cause partnership with Operation Homefront. During the month of November, Bob’s will double any donation made to Operation Homefront in all store cafés and online. Employees of Bob’s distribution center in Connecticut, who are also veterans, presented a Café Collection for a Cause donation to Operation Homefront for funds raised last year.

Having access to your home should be simple but for those with limited mobility, even a few stairs can pose a seemingly insurmountable challenge.

This July, in celebration of Disability Pride Month, Bob’s is supporting Operation Ramp It Up, an Ohio-based organization that provides ramps for military members and anyone in need.

Bob’s presented a $2,500 Random Act of Kindness donation, which helped support a ramp build for veteran, Rainer Hartmann, who was diagnosed with ALS last March. Hartmann’s ramp was constructed in late July offering him full access to his Cincinnati, Ohio home.

Operation Ramp It Up volunteers build a ramp for veteran Rainer Hartmann in Cincinnati, Ohio, July 22, 2023.

“We like to give back to veterans and those with mobility issues by providing freedom, independence and accessibility,” commented Operation Ramp It Up CEO, Greg Schneider. “This will help them regain their freedom and independence to enter and exit their homes.”

Hartmann also received an extra perk during his ramp build when FC Cincinnati professional soccer player, Jimmy McLaughlin, showed up to help. Hartmann is a huge fan of the American professional soccer club and gladly accepted an autographed ball.

Bob’s representatives were able to attend the ramp build and present the donation on behalf of the Bob’s Community Outreach team and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Resource Group.

“Showing support for Disability Pride Month by partnering with Operation Ramp It Up is a perfect partnership,” said Bob’s DEI Manager Erica Bishop. “We are honored to support an organization that knows the value of having access to your home, especially during challenging times.”

Operation Ramp It Up was founded in 2014 by Schneider, a longtime UPS driver. As of this August, Operation Ramp It Up has installed more than 250 ramps in all 50 U.S. states.

Founded as an organization to support veterans and their families, Schneider said Operation Ramp It Up now supplies ramps for anyone in need. Schneider noted the organization will construct a ramp for a four-year-old boy with multiple disabilities later this summer.

Each aluminum ramp can cost between $2,500 and $15,000, shared Schneider, adding that ramps are often re-used making the projects sustainable.

With every ramp built, Schneider said he hopes to enrich the lives of recipients giving them full access to their homes.

Bob’s is fortunate to have so many employees worthy of being nominated to receive a Heart of Bob’s award.

Heart of Bob’s is an employee recognition program that seeks to celebrate the human stories of selfless acts that exemplify The Bob’s Way.

We are proud to share each story, from a store team who honored a colleague that passed away, to a store manager who consistently always makes a difference for his employees.

“Craig is one of those individuals who goes above and beyond, not only for his friends and family but also his coworkers,” said Kurt Pappalardo, Bob’s Director of Commercial Sales.

With a team of six other racers, Craig participated in the non-stop relay, Ruck4HIT, in Cape Cod in May, benefiting Heroes in Transition (HIT). HIT offers assistance for veterans, service members, and their families.

Carrying a 20-pound rucksack for the entire journey, Craig completed the 36-hour race running through the day and night.

“It was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done,” said Craig, “but it was also one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done.”

According to HIT, the relay race signifies the burden of war that members of the military carry during duty and beyond. “Carrying the ruck sack is symbolic of hardships endured and the perseverance required to complete the mission,” HIT, explains.

“Volunteer work is really something that is very important,” shared Craig. “I work with veterans’ organizations and organizations that help with rapid rehousing for homelessness. It’s something that is really close to my heart and I want to continue to do.”

For his sense of integrity, Craig is awarded a Heart of Bob’s.
