<p>At Bob’s Discount Furniture, giving back to our communities is part of who we are—and few causes are closer to our hearts than supporting those who serve. Our partnership with <a href="https://northcarolina.uso.org/">USO North Carolina</a> began the moment we opened our first store in the state, when we proudly donated $25,000 to help advance their mission of keeping service members connected to family, home, and country.</p>

<p>Since that first donation, our partnership has continued to grow and the USO team has embraced the fun and friendly spirit of our Little Bob plushie, bringing him along on adventures from North Carolina bases to Guam and Japan. Seeing photos of Little Bob traveling the world has been an incredible reminder of the impact that small gestures of comfort can have.</p>

It brings our core value of fun to life for our guests, while also helping Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals bring comfort and healing to kids who truly need it most.”</p><p>CMN Hospitals support the health of 12 million kids each year across the U.S. and Canada. Donations go to local hospitals to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, along with innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, child life services that put kids’ and families’ minds at ease during difficult hospital stays, and financial assistance for families who could not otherwise afford these services. </p><p>“On behalf of everyone at CMN Hospitals, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Bob’s Discount Furniture for their incredible support,” shares Staci Cross, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for CMN Hospitals. </p><p>Bob’s Discount Furniture has supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for more than three years and has contributed nearly $200,000 to support local member hospitals coast-to-coast! </p> </div>

The <a href="https://www.mybobs.com/blog/little-bob-big-impact-bobs-discount-furniture-plushies-to-support-family-promise/">campaign</a> concludes at the end of the year. Bob’s is also supporting the USO to benefit North Carolina Operations through the sale of Little Bob plushies in all North Carolina locations through the end of year.</p><p>Bob’s plans to continue to sell Little Bob plushies for charity in all locations. The Plushies for Charity program runs congruently with Bob’s Café Collections for a Cause program, which Bob’s matches guests’ donations made in store cafés dollar-for-dollar for various non-profit organizations.</p> </div>

<p>This summer, Bob’s Discount Furniture reached an incredible milestone: the opening of our 200th store! While our Wilmington, NC location has the official honor of being store 200, we wanted every location and every employee to understand the role they played in our journey to 200 stores and beyond. </p>
<p>Bob Discount Furniture’s President and CEO Bill Barton shared, “Whether an associate joined Bob’s last month or back in 1991, they are all part of this story. The 200th store milestone is a reminder that behind every delivery, every sale, every guest interaction, there are so many people who helped build Bob’s into what it is today.”</p>

<p>In a special video message to employees, our founder Bob Kaufman reflected on the journey from one small store in 1991 to a coast-to-coast brand with 200 locations today. Bob shared that while our growth has been incredible, the real secret to Bob’s success is simple: smart, dedicated employees who bring energy, creativity, and care to everything they do. Their commitment has built a company culture where value, fun, and giving back to our communities always come first. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Coming Full-Circle: Looking Back to Look Ahead</strong> </h2>
<p>As summer reached its unofficial end over Labor Day weekend, our 200-themed festivities also drew to a close but not before having one final celebration where it all began: <strong>Newington, Connecticut</strong>. The relocation and Grand Opening of our new Newington location wasn’t just another ribbon cutting—it was a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and the amazing people who got us here. The event, which featured a “Mini Museum of Bob’s History,” food trucks, and fun activities, was set up as a block party as our way of saying thank you to the people of Newington who helped Bob’s get its start. Several customers shared personal anecdotes with Bob Kaufman about their first piece of furniture from Bob’s and why they’ve stayed loyal to the brand throughout the past 30 years. </p>

<p><strong>MANCESHTER, CT – July 1</strong> – <a href="https://blog.mybobs.com/?srsltid=AfmBOorwQMI_Q7wFktx8tXRmKHaZDCoSOpvzlHrdVeyByYmNnCrQiljs">Bob’s Discount Furniture</a>, one of the fastest growing omnichannel furniture retailers in the country, will be supporting Family Promise through its Plushies for Charity program.</p><p>Bob’s will contribute $5 from the sale of each Little Bob plushie sold in participating Bob’s locations to <a href="https://familypromise.org/">Family Promise</a>, which strives to help end homelessness for families. The plushies will be available now through December 31, 2025.</p><p>Bob’s first <a href="https://blog.mybobs.com/blog/bobs-welcomes-family-promise/">partnered</a> with Family Promise in March 2024, as a Café Collections for a Cause partner. Donations were collected in stores nationwide and Bob’s matched those donations dollar-for-dollar, <a href="https://blog.mybobs.com/blog/bobs-discount-furniture-raises-over-35000-for-family-promise-to-support-families-experiencing-homelessness/">contributing</a> over $35,000 to the organization.</p><p>“Supporting Family Promise is a natural fit for Bob’s,” shared Lindsay Ruszczyk, Communications, PR, and Community Outreach Director. “We share a deep commitment to supporting our local communities and we both believe that everyone deserves a home they love.”</p><p>Family Promise began more than 30 years ago and now has a presence in almost every state serving nearly a quarter of a million people every year.</p><p>Through the Plushies for Charity program, Bob’s and its guests can help Family Promise continue its work supporting families through multiple programs, including eviction prevention, emergency shelter, stabilization, and housing services. It will also ensure that the issue of family homelessness is brought to the attention of furniture shoppers nationwide.</p> </div>

This loveable plushie will be available in most* Bob’s stores starting President’s Day weekend and will retail for $11.99.</p><p>Bob’s will contribute $5 from the sale of each plushie to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals who support local member hospitals near each store location.</p><p>“Bob’s has been about supporting our customers and communities ever since Bob Kaufman himself launched the brand more than 30 years ago,” said Stephen Nesle, Chief Brand Officer. “We’re so happy and proud to offer an adorable version of our iconic spokes-puppet Little Bob in support of such a worthy organization like Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.”</p><p>The Little Bob plushie to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will be available* chainwide through June 30<sup>th</sup>, 2025.</p><p>“On behalf of everyone at CMN Hospitals, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Bob’s Discount Furniture for their incredible support,” shares Staci Cross, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for CMN Hospitals. </p><p>CMN Hospitals supports the health of 12 million kids each year across the U.S. and Canada. The news brought uncertainty, but Connecticut Children’s offered a beacon of support. Through multiple surgeries, specialized appliances, and the unwavering care of a multi-disciplinary team, Brian thrived. He faced challenges with feeding and pain management, but his infectious smile never wavered. <p>Emilia was born premature and spent 143 days in the neonatal intensive care unit battling breathing difficulties, weight gain challenges, and a diagnosis of Craniosynostosis. Even after leaving the NICU, her fight continued with oxygen support and surgeries. A diagnosis of Juvenile Arthritis added another hurdle. But through it all, Emilia’s resilience shone. The Angel Eye cameras, funded by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, allowed her family to stay connected, providing comfort and strength during long hospital stays. Today, Emilia continues to defy expectations, proving that even the smallest fighters can overcome immense challenges. <p>In fact, all of Bob’s on-the-house Cafés offer ice cream, candy, cookies, and coffee year-round! That’s just the Bob’s way! </p>
<p>I’ve got tons of options to choose from for all you wafflers out there. To be precise, we order 30,000 gallons of traditional ice cream, non-fat ice cream, and sherbet flavors every year! Come by on National Ice Cream Day or any day to celebrate in a sweet way!</p>
<p>Just like Bob’s promise of “no gimmicks,” the complimentary Café treats have been part of Bob’s store concept since the early 1990s, as a way to say thanks to guests for stopping in. </p>

<p>In the early days, store associates scooped ice cream for guests and baked cookies on-site. The aroma of chocolate chip cookies was synonymous with a family shopping trip to Bob’s. </p>
<p>Some stores had vintage arcade games, a mini golf course, a popcorn machine and root beer floats—talk about nostalgia! </p>

<p>Today, our individually packaged treats make snacking in our Cafés simple, and guests can still enjoy our large glass jars of penny candy just like in the good ol’ days. I won’t tell if you take a few for the road! </p>

<p>My merchandising team works super hard to bring you the beauty, and they knocked it out of the park on this one! They say Bettie’s style and affordable price are key to making it a best-seller from coast to coast. </p>
<p>“We offer so many relevant and on-trend furniture products and Bettie is just one example of this,” said Bob’s Vice President of Merchandising, Tracy Paccione. “We have been expanding our looks to appeal to more customers and also space solutions,” added Paccione.</p>

<p>The Bettie sofa was introduced in the fall of 2021 in two iconic mid-century colors symbolic of the Mad Men style era. A third color and a chofa (sofa + chaise) were added when the merchandising team saw the success of the collection.</p>
<p>The sofa is offered in soft shades of teal and gray as well as a retro russet color, that caught the eye of the Cosmopolitan writer. “Burnt orange is one of the color spectrum’s greatest gifts to humanity, and that’s just facts,” penned journalist Annabel Iwegbue. “Now, I present you with this lovely mid-century-inspired sofa to back up my argument.”</p>
<p>Paccione said the merchandising team is thrilled that Cosmopolitan has taken note of the sofa. “It’s great that the Bettie Collection is recognized,” commented Paccione. “It’s stylish, has endless options, is comfortable, and is a great value.”</p>
<p>If you want a little insider info, I have it on good authority that the team will be expanding the Bettie collection to other rooms in the home. Mid-century here we come!</p>

<p>It’s going to be sweet dreams for new students of the U.S. Coast Guard’s <a href="https://www.gocoastguard.com/active-duty-careers/officer-opportunities/programs/officer-candidate-school-ocs">Officer Candidate School</a> thanks to a mattress donation from <a href="https://blog.mybobs.com/">Bob’s Discount Furniture</a> with the help of the <a href="https://www.giants.com/">New York Giants</a>.</p>
<p>Just two weeks after the Officer Candidates began their intensive 17-week program at the school located on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s New London campus, Two-Time Super Bowl Champ and Super Bowl 25 MVP Ottis “OJ” Anderson, helped the Bob’s team load in 50 new <a href="https://blog.mybobs.com/mattresses/view-all-mattresses/p/20063820004">Bob-O-Pedic Hybrid Gem</a> mattresses. Volunteers from Bob’s nearby Distribution Center jumped in to help and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more efficient mattress assembly line in all my puppet life!</p>

<p>“Gang way, mattress,” the candidates chanted as they moved down hallways and around corners. OJ stood at the ready instructing the candidates and volunteers how to hold their mattresses for optimal leverage. Not bad advice!</p>

<p><a href="https://www.fox61.com/article/features/bobs-furniture-partners-with-giants-for-coast-guard-academy/520-04495544-1ea1-4955-9cbf-d4b04982b4fe">Fox61</a> attended the event and though I am sure they meant to interview me, they took time to discuss what the day’s events meant to OJ.</p>
<p>“The look on these… candidates’ faces, to see the work ethics, the team unity that they showed.” said OJ to Fox61’s Jim Altman, “That was good for me.”</p>
<p>“It made go back and think about all my teammates I went to battle with, that got me the opportunity to get these two Super Bowl rings,” said OJ. “It kind of gave me that feeling again.”</p>
<p>As fast as the new mattresses were moved in, the old ones were moved out so candidates could begin the artful task of making the neatest beds I have ever seen!</p>
<p>I’ve been in the bed business for more than 30 years and I’ve never seen a tighter fold on a bed sheet! Officer Candidates brought out multiple rulers to ensure their creases were the precise measurement. They got two thumbs up from me. I hope their superiors thought the same!</p>

<p>After a boisterous lunch in the Academy Wardroom with the Coast Guard Academy Cadets, OJ signed autographs in Emlen Tunnell Strength and Conditioning Center- a place that holds significance for both the Giants and the U.S. Coast Guard.</p>
<p>OJ, a former Giants’ running back, sat in front of a display for NFL legend Emlen Tunnell who was a defensive back with the New York Giants (1948-1958) as well as a Coast Guard steward’s mate during WWII. Tunnell is also the first African American recognized in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.</p>
<p>Students lined up for more than hour while OJ signed jerseys, sneakers, sports memorabilia and photos. He stopped to chat with each eager person and while no one asked for my autograph, I was just happy to share the table with OJ.</p>

<p>“The Leadership Development Center and Officer Candidate School are grateful for the mattresses gifted to us from Bob’s and the New York Giants,” said Captain Joe Meuse, Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard’s Leadership Development Center. “This amazing gift is a reminder of the support the United States Coast Guard receives from those who we have pledged to protect and serve. Additionally, the gift is not only symbolic of our partnership with America, it will also directly help the officer candidates through this program by ensuring they get a superb night’s sleep and are well rested for the challenging days ahead.”</p>
<p>Over the rest of the winter, Officer Candidates will be back to work to complete a very intensive program before graduating into leaders. I’m happy the Bob’s mattresses will give each candidate some much needed rest.</p>

<p>At Bob’s we love to celebrate the human stories of selfless acts that exemplify <em>The Bob’s Way</em> by issuing <a href="https://blog.mybobs.com/heart-of-bobs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heart of Bob’s</a> awards. Several times a year, we select a small group of employees nominated by their peers to receive this honor.</p>
<p>We closed 2022 recognizing employees for heroism, volunteerism, creating fun and being consistent every day. I am so honored to share the stories of these people who embody that <em>little</em> extra to make a <em>big</em> difference (read about past recipients <a href="https://blog.mybobs.com/employees-with-the-heart-of-bobs/">here</a>).</p>
<p>I had a chance to visit with an employee who handknits winter wear for people in need! I was so touched when she presented me with hat and scarf! </p>

<p>As the Facilities Building Engineer located in Bob’s Home Office in Manchester, Connecticut, you’d be hard-pressed to see Wayne Conlogue sitting in one spot for long. Whether he’s needed at the corporate offices or in stores, Wayne responds to any call stating: “I will be there.” His dedication and commitment are of the highest level no matter the task. A selfless leader, Wayne does not seek or expect accolades. For Wayne’s commitment to his community, his attention to safety and his accountability he is awarded this Heart of Bob’s.</p>

<p>A Customer Care Representative Lead by day, you might be surprised to learn that Kristen Benedict is a leader in the mobile gaming world as well. Started in 2017, Kristen manages a Discord server that connects Pokémon Go players across the greater Farmington Valley hosting meetups, tournaments, and events to bring players together. Recently designated a <a href="https://pokemongolive.com/post/community-ambassador-program/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Community Ambassador</a> by Niantic (The Pokémon Company), the <a href="https://thesilphroad.com/c/FarmingtonValleyPoGO" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Discord server</a> now reaches players globally providing additional support and resources beyond the local community. For her energy, spirit and fun mindset, Kristen is awarded this Heart of Bob’s.</p>

<p>A Guest Experience Specialist in the Totowa, New Jersey location, Robin Thomas devotes her free time to helping others. When Robin is not busy at work, she volunteers with the non-profit <a href="https://lovingarmsfoundation.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Loving Arms Foundation</a>, which supports the needs of homeless individuals in the area. In addition to helping provide clothing and meals for the homeless, Robin has participated in holiday toy drives among other volunteer activities. For her support of community, Robin is awarded this Heart of Bob’s.</p>

<p>A Human Resource Compliance Manager located in the Home Office in Manchester, Connecticut, Jennifer Cludinski is a neighbor anyone would be lucky to have. After checking in on an elderly neighbor suffering from illness, Jennifer alerted family members to some concerns. Jennifer’s persistence that her neighbor needed care was crucial to this person’s wellbeing. Jennifer possesses much integrity taking time to care about her neighbors and those around her. For her loyal sense of community, she is awarded this Heart of Bob’s.</p>

<p>The Rockville store team located in Maryland, rallied together to present a special holiday gift to the group that keeps their Bob’s Discount Furniture showroom clean and ready for business every day. The store’s Guest Experience Specialists wanted to make sure this group of people were honored and recognized for all they do. For their sense of community, Team Rockville is awarded this Heart of Bob’s.</p>

<p>A Retail Guest Support Lead in Bob’s New London, Connecticut store, Danielle also has a special talent she uses to help others when she’s not working. Danielle has been handmaking winter caps and mittens for the homeless or under privileged in the greater Norwich area. Using her own supplies or yarn donated by fellow team members, Danielle has made hundreds of matching hats and gloves for those in need. </p>

<p>Danielle, who has worked for Bob’s for more than a decade, was nominated for the Heart of Bob’s honor by Bledar Nasse, Retail Store Manager in New London.</p>
<p>Nasse said Danielle reflects the <em>Bob’s Way</em> of doing the right thing all the time and consistently exemplifies Bob’s Core Values.</p>
<p>“I know Danielle for over 11 years and every single one of those years it gets better and better,” said Nasse. “She loves people, and she always finds a way to make everyone happy. I am very proud to have Danielle on my team and she has a heart of gold.”</p>
<p>Danielle has been crocheting for more than 30 years. In the last 15 years she began giving items away to those in need from the homeless to local newborn babies and children overseas.</p>

<p>Just the past winter, Danielle’s son Kegan Watson asked her to crochet some hats and gloves so he could distribute them with winter coats he donates yearly.</p>
<p>Danielle said she got to work in August and by September had crocheted 200 hats for this winter’s distribution.</p>
<p>Danielle said her son has been distributing new coats to those in need for four winters. “He doesn’t ask for background,” Danielle explained. “He just says, ‘Here, you look cold. Here’s a hat. Here’s a coat.’”</p>
<p>In addition to making hats for distribution through her son’s grassroot effort, Danielle’s hats and gloves can be found hanging in Ziplock bags on a tree outside the First Congregational Church of Norwich for those in need to take.</p>
<p>Tralayne Saportia, Retail Guest Support for Bob’s New London store, is proud if her colleague also sharing that Danielle is shy about her generosity. Most people, don’t even know Danielle crochets the winter wear for others, explained Saportia. Once she learned about Danielle’s donations, she had to help nominate her for the Heart of Bob’s award. “Danielle’s exemplifies Bob’s Core Values in every way,” said Saportia. “Her dedication to her work, co-workers and the Bob’s way shines.”</p>
<p>True to her kind nature, Danielle took time to make Bob’s spokespuppet Little Bob a hat and scarf. Little Bob brought her a gift card to purchase more supplies so she can keep crocheting!</p>
