Anja and Eugene Rosenberg to Receive Human Relations AwardBob’s Discount Furniture Co-Owners Recognized as Civic Leaders by the National Conference for Community and Justice and the Fox 61 Family Fund Anja Rosenberg was born in Sweden, and is a graduate of Central Connecticut State College. She is active with local charities and community organizations, serving on the boards of Jewish Family Services, the Farmington Valley Art Council, and the auxiliary board of the Hebrew Home and Hospital. A strong supporter of volunteerism, Anja Rosenberg has been volunteering for the last six years in the Hebrew Home cafeteria. “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice,” she said. Eugene Rosenberg grew up in the Hartford area and attended the University of Connecticut and Hillyer College. He and Bob Kaufman founded Bob’s Discount Furniture in 1990. Rosenberg currently serves on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Chabad House of Greater Hartford, the Jewish Federation, the Hebrew Academy and the Hebrew Home and Hospital. He also helped to establish Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation, an organization that has raised more than $1,000,000 over the last five years for programs that benefit children. “One of the things near and dear to my heart is Camp Rising Sun,” said Rosenberg. The camp provides recreational activities for children with cancer. "What a pleasure it has been, knowing Gene and Anja! Behind the scenes, not wanting recognition for their good deeds, they have provided caring assistance to meet the needs and dreams of so many individuals and causes. Those who know them realize that they are most deserving of this honor," said Cathy Poulin, Director of Public Relations. Michael Hoffman, Director of Inventory Operations, explained the Rosenbergs’ lifelong dedication to community, “Gene and Anja have touched three generations of Hoffmans, my grandfather, back in the sixties, my father, and now me. I can remember hearing my father on the phone laughing and talking about the Celtics, and I knew just who he was speaking with. He often talked, and still talks, about Gene and Anja's unique ability to connect with people and their tremendous willingness to lend a hand to those in need. My experience has only reinforced my dad's words. They're truly amazing people.” Bob Kaufman, President, told how the Rosenbergs helped him start Bob’s Discount Furniture, “They say the sign of great people is the lasting effect that they leave on others. I have been partners with Anja and Gene for 24 years. I could talk about the genius and success that they bring to any business transaction, but that isn't the greatest gift that they have given me (although I certainly am thankful for their early belief in me). The great gifts that I have learned from them are giving and charity. They lead by personal example, and at their side I have learned that giving back is what it's all about. I will forever be grateful for this life lesson.” About the National Conference of Community and Justice About the Fox 61 Family Fund About Bob’s Discount Furniture ### For more information, please call 1-800-723-BOBS or visit my location page to find a Bob's Discount Furniture store near you!
