Bob's Discount Furniture And The Pajama Program Collect Thousands Of Donations For Children Nationwide

(Manchester, CT) March 8, 2010 – Bob's Discount Furniture, with 36 retail store locations throughout New England, New Jersey and New York, announced the results of its recent in-store event, Open Your Heart Campaign.  On Saturday, February 27, the retailer collected nearly 2,000 donations of new pajamas and books in support of the national nonprofit the Pajama Program.  This most recent donation is part of Bob’s Discount Furniture’s ongoing support of the Pajama Program and brings its total donations to date to nearly 8,000 new pajamas and books.  

“We are truly grateful for the support we have received from Bob’s Discount Furniture and the generous donations given by families across New England, New Jersey and New York,” says Genevieve Piturro, founder and executive director, Pajama Program.  “Especially this time of the year, each and every book and pair of pajamas makes a difference in the lives of children in need.  We feel strongly that these contributions make a significant difference and will make bedtime a warmer and cozier time of day for many children across the nation.”

The event was hosted as part of the Bob’s Discount Furniture ongoing Random Acts of Kindness Outreach Program.  Families were invited to visit one of the retailer’s 36 locations for the opportunity to meet various Nickelodeon© characters and help children in need through donations to the Pajama Program.
The Pajama Program delivers warm sleepwear and nurturing books to children in need throughout the United States, many who live in orphanages, group homes and shelters.  These children are sometimes shuffled between temporary living situations just waiting and hoping to be adopted. Since 2001, the Pajama Program has provided more than 537,000 pajamas and 248,000 books to children.
