Bob's and the Pajama Program Collect Thousands of Donations for Children in Need

Bob's Discount Furniture hosts Keep Our Children Safe & Warm Day, Local Families Turn Out to Help Those Less Fortunate

Bob's Discount Furniture, the 2008 Furniture Retailer of the Year, with 31 stores throughout New England and New York, today announced the results of its recent in-store event, Keep our Children Safe and Warm Day. On Saturday, February 28 Bob's Discount Furniture collected more than 2,500 donations of new pajamas and books in support of the national nonprofit the Pajama Program.  This most recent donation is part of Bob’s Discount Furniture’s ongoing support of the Pajama Program and brings its total donations to date to more than 6,000 new pajamas and books.

“We are truly grateful for the support we have received from Bob’s Discount Furniture and the generous donations given by families across New England and New York,” says Genevieve Piturro, founder and executive director, Pajama Program.  “Each and every book and pair of pajamas makes a difference and we feel confident that this significant contribution will make bedtime a warmer and cozier time of day for many needy children.”

“We are thrilled with the response and overwhelming kindness demonstrated by the families who attended this event,” said Bob Kaufman, president, Bob’s Discount Furniture.  “Now more than ever, it is important for each of us to do all we can to help those less fortunate and at Bob’s Discount Furniture we will continue to support inspiring and deserving organizations like the Pajama Program.”

The event was hosted as part of the Bob’s Discount Furniture ongoing Random Acts of Kindness outreach program.  Families were invited to visit one of the retailer’s 31 locations for the opportunity to meet various Nickelodeon© characters and help children in need through donations to the Pajama Program.

The Pajama Program provides new pajamas and new books to needy children in the United States, many who are waiting and hoping to be adopted. The program started with personal contributions and has now grown nationwide, donating over 310,000 pairs of warm pajamas to date. The organization's overall mission is to provide a loving environment for children who have lived through a great deal of hurt in their young lives and to give them hope for a better tomorrow.  For more information, visit www.pajamaprogram.org.
