Bob's Discount Furniture, through its Bob’s Outreach program is supporting this weekend’s Walk to Cure Cancer in Worcester, MA. The walk, taking place on Sunday, September 13 kicks off at 12:00 pm at the UMass Medical School at 55 Lake Avenue North in Worcester, Massachusetts. All proceeds from the walk, which drew 14,000 walkers in 2008, will go to support all types of cancer research at the UMass Memorial Cancer Center. Bob’s Discount Furniture is sponsoring the Kid’s Tent where children attending the event can get their face painted and enjoy clown entertainment. Bob’s will also be raffling off a children’s bunk bed to one lucky walk attendee.
“Bob’s couldn’t be more excited to be supporting and participating in the Walk to Cure Cancer yet again this year, helping to entertain and put smiles on the faces of the event’s youngest attendees," said Cathy Poulin, Bob’s Discount Furniture community outreach director and TV personality. “Unfortunately cancer is something that touches us all, but the fundraising done through the walk in support research at the UMass Medical School is getting us that much closer to one day curing this devastating disease.”
Since the first Walk to Cure Cancer on Labor Day in 1999, passionate teams of walkers have been instrumental in helping to make the UMass Memorial Cancer Center possible. While the first years of the walk were focused on raising funds to build the research facility, it is the cutting edge research and the possibility of a cure that will continue to provide hope and meaning to those who walk. In the eleven years since the walk began, the UMass Memorial Cancer Center has made great strides in its efforts to find a cure for cancer and has achieved major breakthroughs in understanding and treating cancer.
