rpope@mullen.comBOB'S DISCOUNT FURNITURE DONATES MORE THAN $9,000 TO LOCAL SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS(Manchester, CT) August 1, 2011 – Bob's Discount Furniture, with 42 retail store locations throughout New England, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Virginia, announces today, that during the month of August Bob’s Outreach program, including the Random Acts of Kindness campaign, will take place in the great state of Maine. Designed to give back to local schools and communities at large, the program will continue throughout the year and reach each state in which Bob’s operates.
Bob’s is encouraging its customers to give back too. In each Bob’s Discount Furniture location, there are containers in the store’s café for collecting donations. At the end of each month, Bob’s collects the donations and delivers them to schools in the area. Through its Bob’s Outreach efforts, Bob’s Discount Furniture has supported education in the communities surrounding each of its store locations with a special focus on art and academic initiatives.
For the month of August, the lucky recipient of a $2,500 donation is Lyman Elementary School in Lyman, Maine.
Additionally, four other Maine schools have received $1,000 donations:
1. Helena H. Dyer Elementary in South Portland
2. South Portland High School in South Portland
3. Deering High School in Portland
4. King Middle School in Portland
“Each month we give back to one of the nine states we are located in through Bob’s Outreach Program. I am excited to announce that this August, we are giving back to the state of Maine,” said Cathy Poulin, Public Relations Director, Bob’s Discount Furniture. “We are thrilled to support the local communities in Maine and help foster growth opportunities for students and the cities and towns in which they live.”
Bob’s also relies on those who live in its local communities to recommend non-profits to receive the Random Acts of Kindness donations. By going into their local store or sending an email to
outreachvan@mybobs.com, customers are asked to help Bob’s identify local organizations they feel are most deserving of the donation.
This month, as part of its ongoing Random Acts of Kindness campaign, Bob’s is making donations of $1,000 each to:
1. LaDawn Quarter Horses Therapeutic Riding Center in West Kennebunk
2. Susan Curtis Leadership Center in Portland
3. Woodfords Family Services in Portland
“This generous contribution brings us another step closer to buying a Sure Hands Lift [motorized transfer device which assists with lifting] so that we can offer the benefits of therapeutic riding to a broader range of clients,” said Donna Lariviere, LaDawn Quarter Horses Therapeutic Riding Center.
The Random Acts of Kindness recipients will receive their checks during a donation ceremony, which will take place at the South Portland store at 333 Clarkes Pond Parkway on August 5 at 11:00 a.m. In addition, the LaDawn Quarter Horses Therapeutic Riding Center will bring their horse, Zippy, for an equipment demonstration. This event is open to the public.
